E-mail marketing

In some earlier post I was trying to explain the importance of getting the visitors to your site and now I'll try to give as much as possible of information about e-mail marketing which is one of the most powerful ways of promoting your websites and blogs.
To use this method of advertising the most important thing is to have someone to send e-mails to and as easy as it seems this can be a very difficult because sending e-mails to your friends can have very limited effect and sending e-mails to people you don't know is SPAM and it is punishable by law. So what are the options?

1. You can create your own list of people interested in same things you are writing about
